Mad Librarian with details on Stanford and Google

New details from the Mad Librarian on Stanford and the Google project. Some of the bigger points:

  • Not all books will be scanned. It will be done in stages, starting with a few thousand books.
  • Google will be doing the actual scanning, but format details have not yet been worked out.
  • Copyrighted works will not be completely available on Google Print, but there will be a link to the WorldCat record.
  • Google is responsible for determining copyright status.
  • While Stanford will recieve digital copies, they will not be able to share them with projects Internet Archive or Project Gutenberg, although they may be able to share them with other schools.
  • It’s unknown if the details of the process will be publicized, but there are no plans to do so.
